Saffron Scones

Ingredients

  • 100 g butter
  • 0.5 g saffron
  • 1 tbsp liquid honey or granulated sugar
  • 8 dl wheat flour (480 g)
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 4 dl milk
  • SERVE WITH
  • Butter
  • Cream cheese
  • Marmalade

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 250°C (480°F).
  • Melt the butter.
  • Grind the saffron in a mortar. Mix it with the honey or sugar in the melted butter, then let it cool.
  • Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  • Add the milk and the butter mixture, then quickly combine the dough.
  • Drop the dough into 4 portions (for 16 pieces) onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  • Dust lightly with flour and shape each portion into a round cake, about 15 cm in diameter.
  • Use a knife to cut each round into 4 pieces.
  • Bake in the center of the oven for 10–12 minutes. Let cool on a wire rack.
  • Serve with butter, cream cheese, cheese, or marmalade.
