Saffron Scones

Spice up your breakfast with saffron! These scones are perfect for a cozy weekend morning—perhaps for a Christmas breakfast—and are simple to prepare. Serve them warm and fresh straight from the oven.

Ingredients
- 100 g butter
- 0.5 g saffron
- 1 tbsp liquid honey or granulated sugar
- 8 dl wheat flour (480 g)
- 4 tsp baking powder
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 4 dl milk
- SERVE WITH
- Butter
- Cream cheese
- Marmalade
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 250°C (480°F).
- Melt the butter.
- Grind the saffron in a mortar. Mix it with the honey or sugar in the melted butter, then let it cool.
- Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
- Add the milk and the butter mixture, then quickly combine the dough.
- Drop the dough into 4 portions (for 16 pieces) onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
- Dust lightly with flour and shape each portion into a round cake, about 15 cm in diameter.
- Use a knife to cut each round into 4 pieces.
- Bake in the center of the oven for 10–12 minutes. Let cool on a wire rack.
- Serve with butter, cream cheese, cheese, or marmalade.
